Fitness Video and Pushups

I promised myself I would work out today--and I did.

First, I put on the fitness video from Netflix, which I've had all week.  I didn't like it.

I gave up on that and did 18 "girl pushups."  My goal is to be able to do 100 in a day by the end of the month.  It's not so far-fetched; I did 12 more later at work.  The first day, I could barely do 10, and then only by laying down for a few seconds between each one by the time I got to five.

This idea came from a challenge I read about to do 3000 in one month, which works out to 100 a day. I scoffed at that, but the challenge caught my fancy, so I decided to try to work up to that. If I do at least one more before I go to bed, I will beat my previous record of 30.  Maybe they will get rid of the hiccups that suddenly struck me a minute ago.

One last comment--God gave us such amazing bodies that we can build up strength pretty fast.

The Work Monster

I love my job! Absolutely love it!  But it takes so much time and energy. What's a workout? I don't think walking up and down in front of the blackboard counts, though it does leave me sore. It's all small movements.

I write with  my write hand and erase with my left so at least I lift that arm once in a while.

I think I need to spend my two-three light/easy weeks between quarters getting re-established in an exercise program.

Notice the word "think."  Where is my commitment?

Just Don't Drink the Water!

Having lived in a place where the water tasted terrible and was so hard that it left a film on the windows. I'm sure there were monsters in that water! In July I moved to Iowa, where I found--you  guessed it--bad-tasting water. I'm renting so I put a faucet filter on. Then we got a new faucet, and the filter, which wasn't terribly effective anyway, didn't fit.

I tried to drink enough water, but I found myself avoiding it, or drinking too much juice, which is full of calories.  Finally, I decided to conquer that monster, so once again, we buy water from the water machine at the grocery.  At work we have bottled filtered water from some delivery company, and I drink two or more liters in eight hours.

Nothing like the taste of pure, clean water.

Juan Moore and the Assistance Dog

I’ve got myself a pretty little canine to help break a couple of bad habits. This dog has a blue coat and an incredible sense of time.  When I am on the computer in the evening, he reaches out his nose and shuts off the internet connection right at 10:00.

If he sees me trying to log into a game site he gets in my way and blocks me from it just as a seeing eye dog keeps his companion from stepping into traffic. He doesn’t stop me from getting into games on facebook yet, but I’m sure I can teach him that too.

Of course, I am his master and I can override his commands, but I normally choose not to. Why get an assistance dog if you aren’t going to let him assist you?

Suggestions

Chelsea said I need accountability, and she's right. I'm thinking of how to incorporate it.  I have not even been working out but the last two weeks I worked 40 hours + at least 5 hours of homework and I am drop-dead tired!

Anthony suggested I write in here but stop spending the time to do all the cute graphics. Boring but at least a report.  I'm taking it into consideration. I haven't even written in my journal for a few days and usually I am faithful at that. And I have a new assignment in my church that is more time-consuming than the last one, but I'm excited about it too.

Darn Fibro! Still, I'm keeping up better than I expected.  I may sleep away Sunday afternoon.

Final Post

I made a radical decision tonight. Having reached the grand old age of 50, I am going to discontinue this blog.

I appreciate the followers, both continuing and new ones, I have gained. Your support has been very valuable to me. Now it's time for me to move on to other things. I might join a bike club, or TOPS, or even take up outdoor walking in the spring.

Thanks, and good-bye for now. I'll leave it up for a few days so I don't just "disappear" and I'd love for you to leave a final comment.

Thanks, Lynn

Veggie Monster

I don't like vegetables!

It's hard to eat right if you really are not drawn to vegetables.  Maybe it's laziness, but most vegetables are better if they are chopped, steamed, boiled, pressure cooked, or baked. That's a lot of work. I did it for years for my family, but now that it's just the two of us most of the time, I find it easier to grab a quick snack. Baby carrots in a bag, that's my style.

Some vegetables I don't like no matter how you cook them. Take Brussels sprouts. Take them all. I certainly don't want them! Cabbage is tolerable if it's cooked with corned beef.  I don't like hot peppers no matter how cute they are!

We recently had a little boy at our house for dinner. His parents said he had to eat his salad  before he could have spaghetti, but he declared firmly that he didn't like "that purple stuff."  Trying to forestall a battle brewing, I told him that purple stuff was Peter Rabbit's favorite food.  That started a discussion of Peter Rabbit and how rabbits are lazy, and by the time it was over, the little boy had eaten all his purple cabbage. I ate mine too, and I didn't tell him I don't like that purple stuff either!

Spinach, lightly steamed, I like.  Too often it looks like this, and it reminds me of the nasty canned spinach I had to eat in Elementary School. Popeye or not, I hated that stuff.

Surprisingly, I like artichokes.
They are expensive, but yummy, and easy to cook with a pressure cooker. The one below is a beautiful example. Nice tight head, good size--you could practically feed a family with it.

I like broccoli in spite of a bad experience I once had with cabbage worms on home grown broccoli.

Raw broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower--that whole family--is best avoided eaten raw if you have hypothyroid disease.
Onions, well, prepping them makes me cry, no matter how much running water or face masks or chilling them or other tricks I use.

Mushrooms are good sauteed lightly, and I did find a way to do them without butter. You just use vegetable broth or water. Not as tasty, but lower fat.  However, after seeing this picture, I'm not sure I want to eat them. Talk about monsters!  Ha ha--can't wait to chop their little heads off and fry them up!
I guess I really do like vegetables. I just don't like work. I think I'll go make a salad. Or just open the prepackaged kind and have a snack.
