Sweatin' to the Oldies

I put a bunch of low-impact fitness videos into our Netflix queue, so that about once every 4-5 weeks we'll get a new workout to try.

Sweatin' to the Oldies 2 came in this week, and I did the full workout. Well, I attempted it anyway.  I need to learn the moves. But I kept moving, which is what really counts.

It's still a little too much shoulder/neck impact for me. About 3/4 of the way through, I basically switched to walking at a fast pace, more like Leslie's workouts.  I did some of the floor/strength workout at the end and he does end with a good stretch.

If it was a Walk Away the Pounds DVD, it would be worth at least 3 miles. Anthony likes it, so I'll stick it in the queue for another day, but I am not ready to purchase it yet.

Aching Muscles Relieved by Exercise!

This sounds backwards, but I woke up very stiff and in pain this morning. I went to the gym and did a very light strength workout. The stretching and muscle use took out all the stiffness and the rest of my day has gone much better.

Plus, I lost 0.6 pounds!

Getting Up Again

“To fall seven times, to rise eight times…
Life starts from now.”

(Quote found at a blog I love--The Chocolate Chip Waffle)

After being sick for several weeks, I've got to start up again! I feel like I'm constantly back at square 1. I refuse to give up, even if it means going back to step one over again. I will move this body!

Beginning (sort of)

I am two weeks into my mission of getting back in shape. Since I will be 50 in a little less than two years, I have adopted as my motto "Fit by 50!"

I am taking a two-part approach to this:

1) making careful food choices, balance portions and types of food.

2) exercise. My husband and I are working together to do Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds. The basic program is a 6-week program, but we are doing each week twice to make it more feasible. Her program is a low-impact aerobic program, based on simple walking movements with arm movements added, and eventually resistance exercises added as well. Leslie is upbeat and easy to follow, so we enjoy her so far.

We just finished our 2nd week, and found the two-mile Saturday workout to be quite a bit easier than we expected. Our first week, we actually walked two miles on Saturday since it was a nice day, but I think the combination of movements on the dvd was a better workout and not so tiring because of the variety.

On the other hand, you can't stop and talk to neighbors while you are in front of the TV, so it's a tradeoff.
